The radio station was established as a successor to the R-107M radio station, which has failed completely during the fighting in Afghanistan. She was too heavy and "power-hungry" as the terms of activities in the difficult mountain terrain, away from their own logistics.
You can see it on multiple frames of Russian war movie "The ninth pilgrimage". The furnishings of the Polish Army went in a few copies in the late '80s.
